Oriental The Chinese Dragon by lovelauraland Oriental The Chinese Dragon by lovelauraland
This is Oriental The Chinese Dragon made for the US Disaster Relief Custom project at the MLPfair this year (2007)
This is Oriental The Chinese Dragon
He has been lovingly hand sculpted with Apoxie Sculpt Scales all over his body.
His impressive green colouring was achieved by using sparkly green/blue flip paint, which change colour in different lights. I have given him golden whiskers and fury bits.
He has hand painted eyes in shades of green and they have been painted to look more relistic and life like, they have been varnished for protection.
He took me around 70 hours to make, each part of Sculpt had to be made in sections as I had to wait for parts to dry before working on to the next part. His head alone has over 300 tiny scales. His tail has thick wire and mesh inside and has been securely fitted to the pony, the tail was originaly meant to be in front of the face but I could not see the detail on the face so I had to move it behind the head, that set me back a day.
My inspiration to make him came from a Windstone Editions Young Oriental Dragon by the famous Melody Peña. I hope you all love him as much as I have loved making him.

This is a really great looking pony-dragon. The care you took in crafting each of the scales is very apparent, especially in the variation of sizes to be appropriate for the different parts of the body. The whiskers, horns, and furry bits give him great character, and his green-blue coloring is beautiful

Absolutely gorgeous work! I love the attention to detail all the way down to the hairs on his tail.

My roommate is a sculptor and has let me try her apoxie sculpt before; my efforts were...pathetic.

Where did you find the flip paint? I've been looking for something that would give that sort of effect, but I don't have a clue where to look.

thanks loads, I got the paint from a model car store here is 'Norwich'
I'm not sure where you would get it in the States, if you know of some shops that sells model remote control cars they might sell this paint, or you could try online?
Good luck, if you find any online let me know. :D

I am a member (I think I have been for maybe 6 or 8 months or so? I don't remember), but I've never posted there. My roommate showed me the forum back when I first started making customs, but I very rarely check the site out. I should probably remedy that... :)
